Going Green

Our ambition is to help children understand the importance of a sustainable world. We grow our own herbs and vegetables that are used in cooking experiences for the children. We have a worm farm, recycling bins and a water tank. We encourage children to show respect for the environment and become environmentally responsible by reducing waste and engaging in activities like making recycled paper. We encourage parents to help us by supporting your child in his learning about sustainability and in more practical ways by packing “nude food” lunch boxes.

Before you throw anything out please think about us! Listed below are some of the waste materials we are able to reuse at kinder.

cardboard, buttons, beads, material.lace,bottle tops,cardboard cylinders,ribbon,wrapping paper

*Please note we are unable to use egg cartons, toilet rolls, soap powder and cigarette boxes.

The Committee of Management, our educators and the children have been planning a new edible garden for the kinder where they can watch and learn about plants growing and then how to prepare them for eating and actually eating the yummy things they have grown. There have also been natives planted in our yard. At the last working bee everyone worked hard to install the new gardens and do lots of planting. We thank Landcare and Hobson’s Bay City Council  for the grant that enabled us to achieve this great improvement to our yard and the program.
